The array of bourbon whiskey is vast and ever growing. Duly, the list of fabulous whiskey cocktails continues to expand. There are, however, recipes that are essential to creating a well-rounded whiskey experience.
These drinks compiled by Barflies’ mixologists showcase the versatility of bourbon whiskey. Some new and some the most popular whiskey cocktails that enthusiasts have enjoyed for ages. Below is a great list for the beginner to explore what is possible with bourbon whiskey.
THINGS YOU’LL NEED
2 oz. Southern Comfort 100 whiskey
¼ oz. of rosemary syrup
2 dashes of orange bitters
1 rosemary sprig and orange peel for garnish
HOW TO MIX IT
In a glass combine the Southern Comfort 100, rosemary syrup, and orange bitters.
Add ice and still to chill the drink.
Garnish with a rosemary sprig and an orange peel.
To create the rosemary syrup: combine equal parts water and sugar, add sprigs and let simmer for 10 minutes.
THINGS YOU’LL NEED
2 oz of Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
3 oz Apple Cider
3-4 oz of Ginger Beer (Trader Joe’s or Freddie’s Old-Fashioned Soda)
HOW TO MIX IT
Stir and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Ice is optional.
1.5 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream
.75 oz Parrot Bay Coconut Rum
Coconut Flakes
HOW TO MIX IT
Combine Bourbon Cream and coconut rum into cocktail shaker. Fill ½ with ice and shake. Strain into rocks glass over ice. Alternatively, you can combine Bourbon Cream and coconut rum in a blender and blend with ice. Serve up with a fresh coconut flake garnish.
THINGS YOU’LL NEED
2 oz. Southern Comfort 100 whiskey
1 oz. sweet vermouth
2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
¼ oz. maple syrup
1-2 slices of cooked bacon for garnish
HOW TO MIX IT
Add the Southern Comfort 100, vermouth, maple syrup and bitters into cocktail shaker. Shake it up, pour over ice in a large rocks glass. Add crispy slice of bacon.
THINGS YOU’LL NEED
1 cube sugar
2 tsp. water
4 dashes Angostura bitters
1 large ice cube
2 oz. bourbon
Orange peel and maraschino cherry, for serving
HOW TO MIX IT
In a rocks glass, muddle demerara sugar, water, and bitters until sugar is dissolved. Add ice cube and pour bourbon over. Stir until chilled. Garnish with orange peel and maraschino cherry.
